Historic of "Projeto Pão da Vida"

On 2000, we had among us brothers and sisters from several Presbyterians Churches of North Caroline, to build the Chapel of the Dr. Gordon Presbyterian Hospital. While they were here our friends from North Carolina visited other parts of our city . Two of the places visited were the Communities Céu Azul and D. Miguel Village where we distributed some gifts as well as a cake from the Dr. Gordon Presbyterian Hospital, which had been left from a birthday celebration. The gifts and cake were given to children that we found in the street. When finishing the cake, there was a melee between the older and younger children and seeing that the cake was finished, they licked the knife, that we had used to cut the cake ,and our hands. Such a scene caused deep emotion in our soul. What we did not know was that episode also had moved the heart of our American brothers, which, in the person of Mr. Bill Lefler, communicated to us that they would send funds from the program " Two Cents a Meal” . With this donation we have helped 100 families from Dom Miguel with a basic basket of food every month .This project started 3 years ago. The baskets are delivered to the homes where we enter and pray with the families. We have figured out that for them to become independent it is necessary to improve the family income. The wife will also need a job , however the women can not work because they do not have any where to leave their small children. Others do not obtain work because they are illiterate. Now, we could help through “The Bread of Life Project”. We intend to help by teaching reading , writing and basic professional skills to the adolescents and adults. Therefore, the main goal is to teach the Word of God and to lead all to the Knowledge of Jesus and His Glory, as we are integrating these families into productive society, giving them dignity, showing that Jesus loves them and that the life with Christ in this world, is a worthy and abundant life. Convidamos Vossa Senhoria e família para participar do Lançamento do Projeto Pão da Vida, por ocasião do Culto de Ação de Graças, no dia 28 de janeiro de 2003 (terça-feira), às 08:00 horas da manhã, na Capela do Hospital Presbiteriano Dr. Gordon.

O Projeto Pão da Vida, tem como parceiros o Presbyterian Hunger Program - Salem Presbytery, Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, NC (USA) e Capelania da Fundação Hospital Evangélico de Rio Verde, que adotou 100 famílias carentes na cidade de Rio Verde e estará mensalmente, por um período de 3 anos, oferecendo alimentos a estas famílias.
